Ice Bucket Challenge

by Olivia Dunmire

The Ice Bucket Challenge is back! The University of South Carolina’s Mental Illness Needs Discussion club has put their own spin on the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The challenge originated back in 2014 to spread awareness about the ALS disease that is still incurable. However, this year USC is spreading awareness about the stigma that surrounds mental health as well as suicide prevention. The world is participating in this #SpeakYourMindChallenge to advocate for the importance of speaking your mind and show that open conversations about mental health are necessary. When you are nominated for the challenge of pouring the icy water over your head just remember you only have 24 hours. If you have any questions about the challenge or you would like to donate to a nonprofit mental health organization please follow uscmind on Instagram or visit activeminds.org.
